We went over how to read scientific papers, and then we came up with a RESEARCH QUESTION. Run through the criteria for the research question, and have it finalized for next class. We will be starting the research in the computer lab next class.
We discussed Adam Smith’s “The Wealth of Nations” today and tried to generate more research question possibilities.
Read through the article from the BRITISH JOURNAL, in preparation of our discussion on Tuesday. Because this is a scientific paper, you will have to approach it differently. Read the INTRODUCTION and the CONCLUSION. Scan the METHODOLOGY and the statistics. Be prepared to talk about these aspects.
Come also with at least three possible research questions inspired by the stimulus package. We shall be making decisions on the research on Tuesday.
We finished discussing Thompson’s “A World Without Work,” followed by Camus’ “The Myth of Sisyphus.” We also started graphically representing our discussion with the “Stimulus Forest.” Come prepared to add to the forest: thesis statement, claims / reasons, evidence, counter-arguments, and POTENTIAL RESEARCH QUESTIONS.
Read and take notes on Adam Smith’s “The Wealth of Nations.”
We did a Socratic Seminar on Nixon’s speech and Thompson’s article on ” A World Without Work,” which we shall finish discussing on Wednesday, before starting on Albert Camus’ “The Myth of Sisyphus”. Please read this and take notes on it.Come with potential research questions as well.
